Definitions (shortened to "defs") are a way to define short lines of information that describe a particular object, person or activity. These definitions are listed on the web site, but are also available while playing on a game server.

History

Back in 2005, a member of the FBG development team used to run a Counter-Strike: Source server called Sky Blue Gaming. As the server was incredibly popular due to its size and vibrant community - and as lots of new players were coming to Counter-Strike at the time - it became apparent that lots of people were asking the same questions. Being a server admin can be difficult most of the time, but add in the factor of people asking you over and over how to enable the in-game console, it became very tedious.

Therefore, we developed a simple question and answer system to server this purpose... and before long, it became so popular that regular players wanted their own glory by having their own definition.

Using Definitions

In order to use a definition on the server, you must use the lookup command with FBG enabled on your server. It is identified with a simple question mark (?) immediately followed by the term you wish to look up. Do not insert a space between the question mark and the term.

Player: ?defs
*** defs: Definitions are cool!

Creating A Local Definition

To create a local definition, the server must first have definitions turned on (defaults to on, changeable by a server admin). Then, while connected to the server in game, type the following into the in-game chat:

!defset <term> <answer>

For example, to tell players about how great the AK47 is, use the following:

!defset ak47 I think the AK47 is totally awesome

WARNING: If a term already exists, it will be overwritten.

To create a global definition will cost 1000 PL, subsequent changes will cause the cost to multiply by two (2000 PL for the next change, 4000 PL for the next, and so on).

NOTE: You cannot change a global definition that was created by an FBG admin.
